Net Futures 2016 is a new innovative conference on the future of networks and, especially, the Future Internet. Net Futures 2016 took place on 20-21 April in Brussels and offered the opportunity to explore how the Future Internet can best serve and benefit from the Commission’s Digital Single Market strategy.
UBITECH has actively participated on behalf of the ARCADIA consortium in the pre-conference meetings as well as the main conference activities at Net Futures 2016: Driving Growth in the #DigitalSingleMarket. UBITECH participated at the pre-conference meetings of the of the Clusters of European Projects on Cloud, providing contributions and ideas based on the work realized on the project. Specifically, participation at the “Software Engineering for Services and Applications” clustering meeting and the “Novel approaches and technologies for Cloud resource and service management (NATRES)” clustering meeting was realised.
Furthermore, the ARCADIA project results were demonstrated in the relevant booths of the clusters at the exhibition area of the conference. In the booth of the “Software Engineering for Services and Applications” and the “Novel approaches and technologies for Cloud resource and service management (NATRES)” clusters, the ARCADIA orchestrator was demonstrated, focusing on deployment and orchestration aspects of distributed applications over programmable infrastructure.
Through the exchange of ideas and the discussions with participants coming from the industrial, research and academia sector, valuable feedback was collected for further extension of the existing developments as well as ideas for implementation in the future.
Net Futures 2016
Net Futures is the annual conference of the Future Internet community. Previously a research-focused conference known as the Future Internet Assembly (FIA) – organised annually in cooperation with the respective EU presidency – Net Futures has become a research and policy conference since the first edition in 2015.
This year, Net Futures 2016 focused on Future Internet in its broad sense, including policy aspects, looking into current technological achievements and the challenges of a next generation internet. Pertinent questions that influenced the different sessions were: What is the Internet’s impact on new industrial business models? How can it help solve major society challenges? What is its key role in creating an innovative Digital Single Market? What is the impact of the next generation Internet on startups and entrepreneurship?
High-level speakers including Vice-President Andrus Ansip, the Commissioner for Digital Economy & Society, Günther H. Oettinger, and Chief Executives from Ericsson, Telefónica, ETNO and EIT Digital addressed the audience during the two plenary sessions.
